Top 6 Electric Scooter Riding Mistakes Beginners Make:

riding an electric scooter is fun, smart and great but you can hurt yourself if you are not careful enough. So here are the 6 biggest mistakes that new electric scooter riders make the most.

1- stance: having a good stance can truly help minimizing your chances of falling down, there are 3 types of stances. 1: right for forward 2: left foot forward 3: feet side by side (dangerous). It doesn’t really matter whether you position yourself between left or right foot forward but do not put your feet side by side because you will have very low stability.

2-braking: this is especially important for fast scooters but it is also important for regular ones, when you hit the brakes as you're hitting them or right before you want to go back and down (see image). The reason for that is to keep your back tire on the ground. The other half of braking properly, especially if you're trying to get the least amount of braking, is to get as close as possible to locking out the tires without actually locking them out. That is going to get you the minimum braking distance which is the best when you're in an emergency situation.

3-terrain: on some terrains scooters have less traction to the ground, for exemple dry pavement has 100% traction but wet leaves have 28% traction. So you want to avoid slippery and wet surfaces like leaves, sand, snow etc. If you must go into that type of terrain, try to go too fast, not brake and don’t turn until you get past it.

4- cruise control: cruise control can be dangerous if you forget about it, for example if you were going full speed and you think that by releasing the throttle the scooter will stop but because of the cruise control it will keep going at max speed. But the scooter will generally give a signal that you are on cruise control so if you are not the kind of person that will forget about this it should be ok.

5- helmet type: depending at what speed your planning to go to the right helmet type will vary. 20mph would be a bike or bmx helmet, more than 20mph would be a motorcycle helmet but if you’re planning to go even higher it would be a full face motorcycle helmet.

6-not using both hands: keeping both hands on the handle bar is a must for your security on your electric scooter. It is not like on a bike, the wheels are smaller and the handlebars are smaller which make it less stable.
